Redesign of technical systems

چکیده
The paper describes a systematic approach to support the redesign process. Redesign is the adaptation of a technical system in order to meet new specifications. The approach presented is based on techniques developed in model-based diagnosis research. The essence of the approach is to find the part of the system which causes the discrepancy between a formal specification of the system to be designed and the description of the existing technical system. Furthermore, new specifications are generated, describing the new behaviour for the 'faulty' part. These specifications guide the actual design of this part. Both the specification and design description are based on YMIR, an ontology for structuring engineering design knowledge.

A Dissipative Integral Sliding Mode Control Redesign Method
This paper develops a new method of integral sliding mode control redesign for a class of perturbed nonlinear dissipative switched systems by modifying the dissipativity-based control law that was designed for the unperturbed systems. The nominal model is considered affine with matched and unmatched perturbations. The redesigned control law includes an integral sliding-based control signal such...
متن کاملSelf-Configuring Socio-Technical Systems: Redesign at Runtime
Modern information systems are becoming more and more socio-technical systems, namely systems composed of human (social) agents and software (technical) systems operating together in a common environment. The structure of such systems has to evolve dynamically in response to the changes of the environment. When new requirements are introduced, when an actor leaves the system or when a new actor...
متن کاملCase-Based Reasoning as a Technique for Knowledge Management in Business Process Redesign
Business Process Redesign (BPR) helps rethinking a process in order to enhance its performance. Practitioners have been developing methodologies to support BPR implementation. However, most methodologies lack actual guidance on deriving a process design threatening the success of BPR. In this paper, we suggest the use of a case-based reasoning technique (CBR) to support solving new problems by ...
متن کاملApplying User-Centered Design Principles to Redesign the Interface to the Portal to Texas History: The IOGENE Project
The IOGENE project at the University of North Texas Libraries applied user-centered design principles to redesign the interface to a unique digital library of cultural heritage materials, the Portal to Texas History. Since its launch in 2004, the interface had become dated and implementation of new functionality was constrained by the underlying technical infrastructure. Genealogists, a signifi...
متن کاملEngineering system co-design with limited plant redesign
Rather than designing engineering systems from the ground up, engineers often redesign strategic portions of existing systems to accommodate emerging needs. In the redesign of mechatronic systems, engineers typically seek to meet the requirements of a new application via control redesign only, but this is often insufficient and physical system (plant) design changes must be explored. Here, an i...
